Former Browns GM Michael Lombardi Joins Patriots – NFL Combine News And Notes

INDIANAPOLIS (92.3 The Fan) – Former Cleveland Browns general manager Michael Lombardi has officially joined the New England Patriots.

The team announced Thursday that he has been named an assistant to the coaching staff.

Lombardi reunites with Patriots coach Bill Belichick after working together in Cleveland from 1991-1995.

“Mike’s got a lot of experience,” Belichick said. “He’s done a lot of things in his career in the NFL and I’m sure he’ll be doing many of those things for us.”

So why didn’t he hire Lombardi until now?

“We do what we always do, what we thing is best for our football team,” Belichick said.

Lombardi, who left the Browns on Feb. 11 and was replaced by Ray Farmer as GM, joined Belichick and the Patriots’ contingent at the Combine.
